Join us for a facilitated discussion on Diversity in the Geosciences while enjoying a tasty beverage in the comfort of your home or office!  We’ll encourage social interaction then break into small groups to discuss topics including:

- What can AEG do to increase participation in geoscience education ?

- Where can AEG have the most impact on education (K-5, junior high, high school, college/university)?  

- How can AEG effectively present geoscience information to different age groups?

- Help AEG develop our strategy to promote diversity awareness in the geosciences on a professional level.

Special Event Happy Hour with Scott Burns: Wine Tasting and Terroir

Escape the office for an evening and join us for an exciting Happy Hour with Scott Burns. Dr. Burns will lead a wine tasting as he explains the importance of terroir - the relationship between geology, soil, climate, and wine. Scott is a past IAEG and AEG President, and is the local expert on terroir in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Please join us for what promises to be a fun and memorable evening as we showcase Oregon region’s geology and wine!

• Welcome Toast with first wine tasting - Lange Winery Pinot Gris wine, volcanic soils.
• PowerPoint presentation - "The Mystery of Terroir of Wine - relationships to geology and soils"
• Introduce the other sipping wines -
  • Rose, Oswego Hills Winery,  volcanic soils
  • Pinot Noir, Stoller Winery, volcanic soils
  • Syrah, Cathedral Ridge Winery, marine sediment soils
• We invite all participants through the " chat box function" to let us know what wines they are drinking and Dr. Burns will discuss the terroir of each of the wines (from around the world)! Final toast with participant’s wines. It will be fun to move around the country (and possibly around the world).
